WELL.

FINALS.

AWESOME? Almost.

The stress has made my face break out like crazy, dramatically abused my sleep pattern and placed me in desperate need of a back/shoulder massage. It also made me sleep in about 4 hours later then intended today. Ha.

Knitwear — Not too worried. Drawing the Croquis worries me, but otherwise I feel pretty confident about that class.

Textiles — Workshop today will truly define how my final will be. I imagine myself finishing everything in three hours and then rewarding myself with a glorious nap.

English — We won’t be getting our final drafts back until next week, so this week is just a bunch of in-class excersizes. Depending on how textiles goes, I might skip English for workshop on Wednesday.

CDFP — If I pass this class it will be by the skin of the skin of my teeth.

Well! Now three presentations to go then I am finished! :D woo!

I have been hanging out and not hanging out with people. It’s crazy how often it shifts during the semester. At the beginning I always hung out with Kristine, Brittany and Michael. Then it was Kelson, Kristine and Ionia. Then Ionia and Elyse. Now it’s Brittany, Ionia and Shawn. Haven’t seen Kristine in quite a while. And doing homework in my room means I pretty much never see the Gold Room crowd anymore. crazy stuff.

Last night I went to the Epidemic Film Festival with Ionia. It’s the school’s bi-annual contest where students can enter their work. There were some pretty sweet ones. I can’t find the site the MC was talking about where they’d be online! argh!

well…anyway…finals.

Let’s recap, shall we? :)

Friday night I went to a shindig at my friend Paula’s apartment! She lives in the hippie district and her apartment is so ideal. The best kind of hole-in-the-wall :) Her friends were all really nice. Some of them got drunk off their asses, a few were on some sort of drug that really fucked them up. Attractive. I brought Elyse and Brittany with me and they had a great time. I was so glad they could come! Paula and Elyse actually have some mutual friends (they hang out at the same bar and cafe) so Elyse practically found her usual crew there haha.

I knew about 5 people, but that just made me all the more social. I drank AriZona Iced Tea the whole night, I was one of two sober people (to my understanding). The other sober person was this cool kid from Turkey. He taught me how to say Good Day, Good Night, I Want Chinese Food and I Love You (the important ones, duh) in Turkish. I vaguely remember bits of each phrase but not the specifics. He was really quiet the whole night and I asked him if he’s a pretty shy person. He said no, that he’s not shy or quiet at all it’s just his English and that he’s actually really funny in Turkey. His English isn’t terrible it is just very limited. He was really cool to chat with.

Brittany, however, is HILARIOUS drunk. All her questions are shouted and she’s deliriously happy about the littlest things. Turkish Boy wore a shirt that had three skulls with a cloud on either side and Brittany was so excited to name them all. The clouds were Dave and Manuel, and the skulls were Jacobi, Marguerite and Fernando. His shirt was very hispanic, apparently.

It was quite difficult to get up and out to workshop at 9:20 the next morning. I haven’t gotten less than 6 hours of sleep in a couple weeks now, so that 4-hour sleep time was intense haha. I went to another workshop right after and didn’t get back to the dorm until about 3:30. I took a bath and fell asleep on my bed until about eight, ate dinner and crashed again in my jeans until ten the next morning. Like woah. Haha.

Monday I helped my roommate with a project. She needed to do photo storyboards for her final project, a silent film called “The Exchange”. The past week and a half we had been trying to find a guy to play her male lead, since she had the three other characters she needed. So I had to help with the hunt for my romantic counterpart. I had asked a few friends, as she had, with no luck. I randomly ran into Dylan after lunch sometime that weekend and asked if he would/could. He say yes! So finally we had a male lead. We shot on Monday. Ionia and I probably told Dylan thank you a total amount of fifteen times haha. Here are the closing (and my favorite) shots:

Dylan was super grossed out by the cocktail sauce Ionia used for blood, he hates any relation to seafood in any form. He was a good sport though. Ionia and Megan even bought him a shirt from Ross but he said they could use his grey one. So Saturday when we shoot he’ll be getting chocolate sauce on it, since the actual film will be in black and white. :) Click to enlarge!

Classes have been going well for the most part. For my final project I have to choose an object for my inspiration, and draw it. I have an item I like but I’d have to alter the colors because the scheme is too similar to my textiles color story. I am very excited for both projects but I know I will cry myself to sleep every night haha. *sigh*

I changed my major to Textiles*, if you hadn’t heard. I’m pretty excited. One of the main reasons I did that was because I realized how much more effort I put into that class. To avoid other homework, I would procrastinate by working on textiles homework. Weird, right? My “inspiration” for my final project is owls and pop art. I hope it comes out well! My colors are light green, blue-green(like teal), orange, light gray and black. I need to edit the green and gray so they’re lighter than now.

So today I headed to a fabric store in the Mission District to scope out some fabric to print on. I’d heard awesome things about this fabric outlet. So I go there and turns out they had re-located about a block away, which was annoying but I found it on accident anyway. There are three 99 cent stores within one block. I got some nice grey broadcloth. Practically everything in the store was on sale! It was crazy. But their organization was pretty non-existent. 100% Cotton printed fabrics were in three different spots in the store. There was a “novelty” section in the middle of the store, a “prints” section near the entrance and on the opposite side of the store was the “christmas” printed ones. Ridiculous.

Textiles homework is pretty time-consuming, but can be multi-tasked. So I watch movies or TV shows while sketching. Recently I have been on a Buffy the Vampire Slayer binge. It’s pretty awesome. I am a geek, I know. *sigh* RA Tyson heard my The Office text-tone and called me a dork. I (im)politely corrected him that I, in fact, am a geek**. :P

I hung out with Elyse! Man it had been almost two weeks so it was nice to catch up. I might see her tomorrow night as well. Yay!

MIDTERMS ARE OVER! YES! EXCELLENT! OMG!

Now all my teachers are talking about final projects and it’s giving me a headache. Textiles I think will be the most taxing on my creativity. But CDFP will be so technical and tedious augh vomit. CDFP is just not my style.
Oh well.

I finally finished uploading all the photos from the wedding. Some of the coloring came out wonky*, I do not know why. But if anyone wants prints of certain photos, let me know if you want me to try and adjust the colors.

I have been hanging out with my roommate more! It’s nice. She and I are a lot more alike than we first thought. I’m just more of a spaz, where she is reserved.

So I’ve been making new friends. But how often is too often to call to hang out? Hmm??? When I meet someone new I want to chill with them often to get to know them and integrate them into my friend group(s) or visa versa if that be the case.

I feel it’s especially weird with boys. Since I do not know them well, I don’t want to come off aggressive or needy, platonic or otherwise. Aggressive would be the correct impression, though.

I just realized the way I spell aggressive is from a cheer in softball. BE! AGGRESSIVE! BE BE AGGRESSIVE! B-E A-G-G-R-E-S-S-I-V-E! AGGRESSIVE! BE BE AGGRESSIVE!

Save the drama for Obama.

I actually haven’t been hanging out with my regular group so much anymore. The factors being: (a) I hang out in my room more and (b) They barely call me, I more often contact them.
I am the eternal instigator.

So last night I hung out with this cool kid Shawn in his friend’s room. Nick and Diego’s room. We played Wii (Bomberman), then watched Grey’s Anatomy (which is actually a really funny show) then played more Wii (Mario Party 8). It was loads of fun. His friend Nick is hilarious.

I met Shawn the night of Obama’s speech. There was a huge crowd in the Gold Room** listening to it, and two of the RAs had arranged some eats. I was chatting with Peter, Kileigh and Kelson and Shawn walked up and joined us. He’s a pretty sarcastic guy, but not an ass. Which is refreshing.

*On Tuesday my CDFP teacher said wonky like eighteen times, referring to inexact measurements, and I have been saying it all over the place.
**The Gold Room is my dorm’s common room, if I have not yet clarified. It’s called that because…the…lighting is gold? Yes?

I had all the weekend to work on this homework, yet I did not do one inch of it. and now I find that my notes are incomplete! Kinda freaking out.

Time after time I do this! I tell myself not to procrastinate, that I will regret it later….but alas, I am a fool.

A fool in so many ways.
And here I am, updating my blog and not doing my homework.

When I write this I am eating a chocolate bar and preparing to take a shower. Showers are amazing, wouldn’t you say? I like the water hot enough that it pinks my skin. My roommate has three loofas and I cannot figure out why.
Chocolate is pretty great too.

I have recently become addicted to AriZona Green Tea. This 23 FL OZ can of godly nectar has, for the most part, replaced my need for java. Each can totals to a whopping $1.04 (with tax!).
I waste water but I save money on tea.

It’s been a long ass time since I’ve updated this. I’m not sure if people have been checking back at all, but if you have, I apologize for the hiatus. It was unintentional.

I am slowly working on more pictures from the wedding. They are fun to look through. Some people are ridiculously red in the face.

Now it’s late, and I am tired. But tomorrow I can sleep in a bit, my class not being until noon. It will be a long day, with class for six hours and then a much-needed workshop visit. I hope there is an extra machine or two.
But maybe I ought to go to the library in the morning….

I am seriously considering changing my major to emphasize in Textiles. Although I am not sure how that would affect my desire to go into costume design. Right now my school only has one costume design class, so I do not anticipate that being an extra major any time soon. I am always excited for textiles, which is unusual for most classes.
I also really enjoy english class. So if art doesn’t work out, I guess I’ll be a writer.

I need room to breathe. How do you tell someone that? I mean, in one way, I enjoy the smothering because, yeah, I adore attention, but on the other hand it’s driving me crazy. Seriously, have some tact.

I’m really scared because there is a part of me that really is not into it. I don’t know what to do. I’m at a point where I am seeing little faults. Maybe it’s just today. I’ve been off most the day….

I think I’ll just sequester myself in my room tomorrow night. I’ll be at school most the day (from like 8:30 to 6:30 at least), and maybe the library after that…we’ll see. I’ve been so social these few weeks that some me time would be nice for a change.

For English I am required to read The Passion by Jeanette Winterson. I am, surprisingly enough, enjoying it. Most books that I am required to read I drag myself through. Also, how she pitched the story it sounded full of clichés. I was not excited at all. She called it “Literature” and not a “beach read”. I’m sorry, but beach reads really are not so terrible. Just because a book doesn’t make it on the best seller’s list or gets one of those gold foil medal things or has words the average person needs a dictionary for, does not mean it is a piece of shit. Which is how she says “beach read”. The first day of class she explained the difference, which is a book that speaks to someone, impacts or has meaning versus a fun, brainless read. I was like “bitch please” because I’ve read plenty of books that had meaning in my life, impacted me etc that she would definitely consider “beach reads”. But whatever, she likes me for the most part.

Anyway, the book is good so far. It has some really quotable bits. Sentences that pop out at me. Like off page 13,

“Perhaps all romance is like that; not a contract between equal parties but an explosion of dreams and desires that can find no outlet in everyday life.”

She really is a talented writer. I really enjoy her style. Another line I like is

“For myself, with no one to love, a hedgehog spirit seemed best and I hid my heart in the leaves.”

A line without a lot of poetry in it, but for some reason really popped out at me,

“It’s about something else too, something hard to talk about.”

I love one-liners. How one sentence can hook (line and sinker! Ha! Jim joke?), reel you in. Ok, enough fishing metaphors. If a book doesn’t grab me in the first few pages, I don’t bother with it. I’m not the type of person to drag myself through books.

Unless they’re required, of course.

In English we had to write a short story. The teacher suggested writing about “what you know”. After a few unsatisfactory starts, I ended up writing about Jared. The 3.46 pages contained the different sides of brother I see in him and his “pearls of wisdom”. I turned in my first draft, one to the teacher and one to my partner. Since I am in an ESL (English Second Language) class, the teacher paired native speakers with international students. I am paired with Kamil, a nice guy from Pakistan. He wrote about an ordeal with international airport security. It was a very interesting story, I’m excited to see how it will develop. We will be working on this story for the rest of the semester! So I was sure to write about something I could stand, haha.
    So I’ve already fallen into the pattern of staying up until morning to do homework, and napping during the day. I don’t mind it so much, just not showering after “going to bed” is all that bothers me. :P

The roommate situation hasn’t changed much. I have a whole drawer set to myself now! Woo! Tonight is Krystal’s joint birthday party with her friend Janelle. Janelle lives in Daly City, which isn’t so far away, but I am not interested in partying it up with people I don’t know at all. I know Krystal smokes and drinks often and I’m not too keen on it this year. I feel a bit bad about not going, but we’re not exactly friends, so I wouldn’t expect her to come to my birthday party.

I randomly discovered an Acapella group called Dynamics, from UMass. They are awesome. I’m really enjoying it.

The point of this entry was to talk about friendships, and those more than. I am so grateful to have friends that come back around even after a hiatus, that I can talk to without hesitation or awkwardness. They are constants in my life.

Friendships were hanging by a thread. Sure, we were still friends, but no where near the capacity as before. And then coming back to school and so surprised how few people from last year made effort to contact me. It’s a bummer, that’s for sure.

But I do not need twenty friends, or more. I am so content with my good friends, and those I may be making.

Brittany, for example. She and I have clicked brilliantly and I hope our friendship continues to grow. We are of like mind, attitude and temperament. She is so silly and her humor is so dry, I love it.

Kristine, who I was buddies with last semester, was a surprise. She and I barely talked over the summer! But now that we’re back we’re good friends again. She is a sweetheart and such a good conversationalist.

Elyse, too, is a good friend. But I don’t see her as much because she doesn’t live downtown. She’s a riot with a loud laugh and huge smile.

What I love about these girls is that I feel I can trust them.

I’ve also met a boy. Yes, there are guys at the dorm I chill with and they’re nice guys (albeit very sarcastic haha), but Michael has captured my particular attention. He’s very different from the majority of guys I’ve met. I haven’t known him very long, but there have been a couple late-night chats where we learned a lot about each other. I’m wild about him.

And he asked me out on a date last night. :)
